We've partnered with businesses and organizations throughout Morehead and Rowan County to make the Appalachian Literary Arts Festival a destination. Check out the venues and options below!

ALAF Partner Programming

CoffeeTree Books:
Join our booksellers in house for the main stage keynote speakers, publisher and author panels, and more books than you can keep track of. The source for all things literary!

Fuzzy Duck Coffee Shop:
Enjoy literary themed coffees and teas and delectable lunch options, including gluten free and vegetarian delights.

Rowan County Arts Center:
Dive into our literary arts show in the alls of the Rowan County Arts Center, featuring artists responding to Appalachian literature. Learn from our workshop leader authors in a variety of writing courses. Stop by the lawn on your way out to visit our selection of vendors, sponsors, and publisher tables. Buy literary merchandise, connect with various publishers and imprints in the industry, and learn more about the goings-on in the region.

Hindman Settlement School:
Talk with Hindman Settlement School inside the Rowan County Arts center to glean information on one of our region's central writing hubs.

Friends of Rodburn Hollow Park:

Walk with author Ann Colbert in the cozy Rodburn Hollow Park and learn more about Rowan County and literary arts in our region.

Sawstone Brewing Co:
Treat your tastebuds to a special literary themed craft beer brewed locally in Morehead.

Rowan County Public Library:

August 28th at 3:30pm - Visit the Rowan County Public Library for a special storytime with Children’s Librarian, Miss Atlanta. Explore the world of the Appalachian forest and discover the critters living there through stories, songs, and crafts! Recommended for ages 12 and under. Shooting Stars Youth Theatre will be joining us for a special craft!

August 29th from 9am-5pm - Visit the Rowan County Public Library for a scavenger hunt. Throughout the library you’ll hunt for Appalachian critters and discover cool things about our local public library! Pick up and return your completed scavenger hunt sheet at the front circulation desk for a chance to win! The winner will receive a $50 CoffeeTree Books gift card! Drawn and contacted the morning of August 30th. All ages are encouraged to participate in this passive event!

August 30th - Visit the library at the Arts Center Lawn to learn more about library services and programs. Miss Atlanta will be in the kids zone! Join her on a heartcentered journey and discover the magic of stories through play, movement, creativity, and curiosity!

WhimziWorks:
Drop in to this local art studio for book bedazzling and other Appalachian crafts for the family.
Stop by their tables on the Rowan County Arts Center lawn to find WhimziWorks' youth zone for more Whimzical fun!

Holbrook Drug Pharmacy:
Sip from a special festival milkshake menu at our local pharmacy and soda fountain and peruse the gift shop for souvenirs to take home after the fun.

Quilter’s Candy Shop:'
Get lost in a fabulous selection of fabrics while demoing quilting methods and learn to make (or order) the loveable quilt from Riel Nason's book, The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt.

New Frontier:
Don't forget to take home some warm and well-made apparel from New Frontier, featuring a special shirt designed just for the Appalachian Literary Arts Festival.
